Dream Weaver

hi ok this one is kind of insane. spent a few days on a chord progression i was excited about before realizing that i was just rewriting a song i’d already written for swelo.

anyway, I started over and leaned hard into the third rule. a sea shanty popped into my head, but that felt unfinished so i decided to get ~conceptual~ and make something that mimicked the un-logic of dreams. the second half samples the sea shanty from the first half, and the vocals are all just first takes (for the subconscious part. etc).

the idea is that there are a lot of independent streams going on at once that don’t really make sense together but kind of all makes sense if you sort of magic-eye your ears? idk man, dreams.

Looking for feedback on

uhh i dont think this works but i guess tell me if it does

Such an Irish tune – I feel the river dance folks until 1:20 – then it goes to a contemporary rappy vibe. Love the vocal layers. The vocals, subtle and engaging play off the solid back beat. Can’t say I can pick out one lyric – but that’s the magic – it’s the entire experience and it’s seamless.

L O L. I love this madness, would love to know what you’re whispering on both sides of my ears 😆 I love the callback to the weird Irish ditty in the outro. Works for me! If anything I might make the intro just a hair shorter

Love your “looking for feedback on” comment. It made me laugh. Everything “works”- at least thats the way I think about it. Your kinda hitting the nail on the head of dream space- this certainly feels like a fucking crazy ass dream. :47 holy moly yes. You’ve been one of my favorites in regards to the insanity behind the pieces you put together and how the exist in this incredibly groovy and unique space.

It works for sure. I feel like Donald Glover would love this.

On first listen I would have called this an A+ submission and moved on, but for the sake of critique, and sort of in line with @@Ryan‘s comment, maybe slightly consolidating the piece, and adding some spacey sounds to tie the whole thing together. Super creative and immersive response to the parameters—well done! I mean come on, great shanty.

This definitely does the un-logic of dreams in a really fascinating way. The two parts feel so fully themselves and not really connected to the other part, at least not in the way you might expect it to (thinking of the shanty-sample, I guess).

“idk man, dreams” seems to really hit the nail on the head here.

WHATTTT???!???!??!? HELLOOO???!?!??!? What just happened… am I on Earth anymore???? What is a human body; I am a head floating above my desk. That beat drop did it. I am gone.

I think this is rad as hell. Not sure whether this “works” is even related haha. The beginning is just pure children’s TV show chaos and the back half is like Kendrick and Tyler and you were like “let’s fuck this up”. I think the only thing that would make it work more (ok fine I see what you mean) is if you dirty up the back half. Some distortion on the drums, some even freakier moments in the vocal, etc. But yeah, this was Grade A fun for me.
