Word Warps

Only a half a week late this time 😉

This assignment was tough for me – I first had to research what modes were, and I’m not entirely sure I got that part right.

I wanted to make sure I was happy with the songwriting on this one before submitting.
This one feels like something between Jeff Buckley and Mother Mother.

First time mixing in Ableton, how’d I do?

Lyrics:

One more time
I find a little more as I unwind
A part that’s rarely ever seen the light

One by one
I gather glimpses of the good that I’ve done
I stop to think about how far I’ve come
I see me better when I’m not alone

Patience, pleasure, money and time,
All the things I hoped were mine
Maybe all I really need
Is hidden right in front of me

It’s alright,
I have her love and so does she have mine
It isn’t fair to keep it tethered

But all these changes haven’t been a breeze,
A fickle fantasy of flawless ease
We’re working hard to make it through the night
I hold the hope that we will be alright

Oh we just want a little time
You be yours and I’ll be mine
Leave the silver cage behind
Put it on the mantle for a while

All this time I couldn’t see
What was right in front of me
In the end I’d rather be
Ruled by hope instead of fear

We clashed and then we cried
Drove you home without a fight
Still, I hoped that I would hear from you tonight

yeah! wow, echoing everyone’s love here. your guitarwork is fantastic. i dig the micing of the guitar, it’s super present, crisp and dynamic without being polished. the buzz is kinda interesting and i’m curious if it would be possible to “play the buzz”, run it through some pedals, get stoned and blast off into space.

this is super super strong work, awesome job!

Alec this is incredible. It’s very gentle and lovely. The guitar playing is dope even with the 🐝 🐝 🐝

MM and JB are exactly the 2 that come to mind here. Very JB with the “Patience, pleasure, money and time” flow.

This is seriously such a great song. The performances are really really great too. Worth the wait. You should def record another version with more buzz because I didn’t get enough in this version.

Love a late submission. This is cool. Really lovely guitar parts and I like this range for your voice. Nice job fluidly moving in and out of a lot of seemingly disparate parts. Yep—mix is good for me!

oh dude this guitar part and playing is incredible. @@Z feel like you would dig this string strummin’. Mother Mother and Jeff for sure. Honestly, I think mixing is really nice. I’m not gonna mention the buzzing in the guitar. Not even gonna mention it. But seriously, i love the balance you tend to reach of familiar and unique guitar/piano progressions. great job.

Thanks dude!! Gotta get that buzz fixed………

What a performance! Certainly don’t need any work on that. As far as mixing goes, since it’s already very stable and clear I’d say small global changes in EQ , comp or verb would be rewarding. Personally I want more warmth out of the mix. Depending on your DAW even just putting on whatever “vintage” like Pultec emulator on but not actually turning any knobs – just to adding a little analog blanket. Share details on the recording process? Great work!

Thanks @@Z 🙂 guitar and vocals recorded through zoom h4n. I recorded the guitar in my backyard, which is where some of the ambient noise is coming in. I’ve been mixing in Ableton
