Earth Inside Your House

Earth Tones

Proud of my first submission here. Def won’t be my last!
Writing around drones is extremely my thing so I had to jump in.
Never really went in on a house tune before but I always wanted to.

I was thinking about that town in Turkey where they fly those hot air balloons.
Seems like one of those places where you could hear the earth’s frequency on a clear day.
What sounds would you hear in town that morning? Some metal clanging? Pre-flight drinks clinking? Wind rushing through sculpted volcanic ash mountains?
I really think I could drive one of those balloons first try. Can’t explain it but I just know I could.

I don’t have perfect pitch but I definitely have… something
What I mean is that I was listening to the B2 drone and said – “‘This is the same key as ‘Hallelujah’ by Paramore”. The last time I heard that song was on family’s shared laptop in my parents’ kitchen in 2008ish.
I threw in a vocal sample from that song as a reminder that I definitely have something, y’know?
Whatever it is, I got it.

Shout out to my partner Caroline for stopping what she was doing to record some claps.
She has the loudest clap on earth and she told me to write that here.

Looking for feedback on

Can you hear this was made in Logic? A lot of people say they can hear what DAW someone uses just by listening. If you can hear it, how do you think I could blur the line of being able to hear what DAW I use? Has anyone ever said this to you?

Funny how upon listening (with much delight i might add) I just assumed that you were like “a house music guy.” so to read that this was your first house track, well, im excited to hear from the rest of your arsenal.

I also use Logic, so the bass instrument sounds familiar to me, but in regards to the whole DAW, that’s a no from me, dawg.

I absolutely cannot hear your daw. Unless any of these patches are supposed to be like, recognizable logic loops? You could have made this in ableton. Whoever said that is a numskull. hell yes to the HYUHH. Yessss thank you for making me want to dance dance dance. This is fun!!! And this mix is pretty nice!!!

Just noticed the “HYUHH!” at 0:44. Thank god for you.

I was watching a Kahn Academy video so I can help one of my students with functional groups, and your song, which I thought was part of the video, was still playing in another tab, and I was like damn Kahn Academy got cool!

the vastness after the transition at 1:22 made me mindful of my breath and vitality in a great way. i love that you felt house music from this and just went for it. the piano at the end and the way it hangs is lovely. way to do something you’ve never done before and absolutely crush it!

Man when I saw you submitted something I thought the same thing -wheelhouse! The Sultan of Ride the Wave Journey has entered the chat, did not disappoint.

I’d had a similar thought with the prompt about “what sounds would you find at your chosen locale,” but opted to lean on the lyrics for the setting – it’s cool to read your description and re-listen to let myself picture the scene with only the evocations from the music – very vivid!

The guitar tone and execution (though not as impressive as the claps, obviously) is my favorite nugget, I wish it came back!

As far as “hearing the DAW,” I can definitely hear it but only because I use logic, I assume this has to do with not only the plug-in palette but the overall color of the processing, not sure how to escape this. Have you tried buying the entire Pro Tools suite?

That’s a loud clap! I definitely don’t have an ear that could identify a DAW (if I even thought that was really possible), but I can definitely hear that this was made super well. Echoing Ryan on loving the piano entrance at 1:39 and the driving baseline right after it is super satisfying. Super nostalgic and upbeat at the same time about this track.

What a jam. Huge, big time fun energy. Claps that would make the Hulk jealous for sure.

So good. Throw a call to prayer in there and I’m in Turkey. Absolutely no part of me is surprised that Caroline has the loudest clap on earth. That’s the original earth tone.

As soon as the beat came in, I was soaring high above the year 1992 in a hot air balloon featuring the exact patterning of the fountain soda cups they had when we were kids. Was hoping some classic house piano chords would show up and 1:39 did not disappoint. This was lovely, man. Great work.

Anyone who says they can hear what DAW something was made in should be sent directly to jail.

do not pass go, do not collect $200.

this is awesome. hadn’t read the description so was caught off guard when the beat dropped. love the cool down section and subsequent build up. Caroline’s claps cut through the mix nicely 👏

lol i thought you meant your caroline

Hey Tyler, I thought this was sick! I’m skeptical about people’s being able to identify the DAW with any certainty, and sure that if they can, I don’t care. I use Pro Tools (inexpertly) and pretty much never think about what a piece was recorded on. I love the 3 over 4 rhythms. Danceable and emotional.

This is awesome. Great energy.

And yeah, I’ve heard people say that about smelling what DAW was used. Maybe some people can. I can’t. One guy who I used to intern for in college also said he could tell me how long a mic cable is just by listening to the signal. I told him “no way man” then he insisted that he “prove” it to me, by having me go into the room and talk into various mics. To this day i swear he set the whole thing up in advance just to impress me, a 20 yr old intern, because the mics were already set up and he clearly must have just memorized the different lengths of cable on each mic. i told him “wow dude thats nuts” and then after that he had me go do a coffee run.
